Your illumy profile is totally customizable -- including the visibility of each of your profile fields. 🔍

This granular level of control helps you maximize your your privacy on illumy, and it’s easy to change.

how to set profile permissions in a browser

  1. Log in to illumy in a supported web browser.
  2. Click your profile image in the upper left corner of the screen.
  3. Click My Profile.
  4. To change your profile permissions, click the Edit Profile button on the upper-right side of the screen. Permissions are available for nearly every field, except those in the top "Profile" section. (This info appears under your profile image at the top of your profile.)
  5. Fields with editable permissions have an icon on the  far right with an arrow/drop-down menu. To change permissions, click the arrow.
  6. Permission options are:
    1. Public (globe icon)—everyone on illumy can see this.
    2. Acquaintance (handshake icon)— contacts you’ve set as Acquaintances can see this.
    3. Friends (people icon)—contacts you’ve designated as Friends can see this.
    4. Best Friends (heart icon)—contacts you've labeled Best Friends can see this.
    5. Only Me (padlock icon)—this info is only visible to you.

  8. Select the permission level you want for each piece of information. This allows you to control, down to every detail, whom among your connections can see your personal info.
  9. As you change  permissions within your profile, your choices are saved automatically. [is this true?]
  10. While permissions apply to most of your profile, profile photo permission settings can’t be changed. Your profile image is visible to all illumy members.
  11. That’s it. Just set it and forget it! Or revisit to change permissions as often as you like.

how to set profile permissions in the mobile app

  1. Open the illumy app. If you're not logged in, go ahead and do so. 
  2. Tap your profile image in the upper left corner of the screen.
